The cornerstone for the White House, the official office and home of every U.S. president and first lady, was laid this day in 1792. It has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams. The residence was designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban. The White House Residence spans six floors and includes 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms.

• This day in the year 54 Nero succeeded Claudius as Roman Emperor. He is infamously known as the Emperor who “fiddled while Rome burned” and as an early persecutor of Christians
• Margaret Thatcher, the only female British Prime Minister was born on this day in 1925. She was admired by most for her strength of leadership and nicknamed the “Iron Lady”
• The first cellular mobile phone service to the general public in Chicago was launched this day in year 1983. This was the first mobile phone service for public use in the United States
