In a surprise attack by a climate change activist, cake was smeared across the Mona Lisa artwork at the Louvre in Paris, shocking art fans. According to reports, the famous Mona Lisa painting in Louvre was smeared with cake by climate change activist to draw attention towards climate change.

Surprising spectators, a man dressed as an elderly woman in a wheelchair sprung to his feet and smeared cake all over the framed picture.

Before security led him out of the building, the man attempted to break through the bulletproof glass that guards the picture and then started to toss flowers in the air.

Although the painting was not harmed it begged the question… why in the green world would anyone do it? The episode has gotten a lot of attention on the internet, but the conversation is more about the ridiculousness of the attack than on climate change.

It appears that the attack was an attempt to draw attention to climate change. In the video clip shot by a visitor, the activist was heard reminding people to “think of the Earth”.

The Mona Lisa, a painting by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci in the 16th century, is one of the most famous pieces of art, valued at over $1 billion.

Throughout history, acid, rocks, and a teacup have been thrown at the Mona Lisa to bring attention to various causes. A disabled lady, enraged by the museum’s lack of access ramps, splashed red paint on the painting while it was on display at the Tokyo National Museum in 1974.

The recent incident reminds us of the famous song by Nat ‘King’ Cole, “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you. You’re so much like the lady with the mystic smile”, lets add to it “Is it only ’cause you’ve got cake on your lips?”
