A billboard ad to help her daughter find love

A mother who’s suffering from cancer has created a billboard ad to help her daughter find love, positioning it right in the middle of New York’s Times Square. Beth Davis who hails from Boston was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in the year 2004, but was treated with chemotherapy and was recovering well. 

However, in June 2020, she found out that she had developed metastatic breast cancer, which had spread to her bones. 

With the knowledge she might not have much time left with her husband Rick and daughter Molly, 61-year-old Beth felt the need to play cupid — especially since she knew most young people’s social lives had been disrupted during the pandemic. 

With Molly’s consent, Beth created a dating profile for her 30-year-old daughter on an app called Wingman, that allows people to let loved ones step in as matchmakers. 

When Wingman founder Tina Wilson got word about Beth and Molly’s story, the profile set up by her mom was transformed into a giant billboard that was then displayed in Times Square. 

Beth said she just wants to see her daughter happy — but admitted that, while she’s nudging things along slightly with Molly’s love-life, she’ll leave it down to her to say ‘when she has met “The One.” 

She said, “Molly has always unselfishly spent a lot of time with us, including taking a leave of absence to fly to New Zealand last year [where I was] when I was diagnosed and also Molly, like lots of young people, have had their social lives interrupted by these Covid years, so I really just wanted to help find her a special someone.” 

Saying she admires her daughter’s ‘glass half full disposition, Beth continued, “She truly sees the good in people and really tries to make everyone’s life she touches better. She is smart and so very funny, loves a good belly laugh and doesn’t take herself too seriously. She works hard but always tries to balance that with having fun, and I really admire that.” 

Molly said she doesn’t mind her mum’s efforts, explaining how her ideal companion is someone who makes her laugh and is ‘a a good communicator.’ 

“My mom and dad lean on each other. That’s what I’m looking for,” she said. 

Beth added, “I would love to know that Molly has a good life partner that adores her and puts her first, as I know she will him. I want to see her surrounded by his lovely family that will have embraced her. And I bet she will slot right into his large circle of friends, and they will plan their own cool adventures.”
