A woman from Australia has won £2.6 million (AED 12 m) after she accidentally bought three instead of two tickets as per her routine.

The lady copped for the top prize of £2.6m (AED 12 m) on Australia’s Set for Life draw, which pays out in instalments of around £11,000 (AED53,444) a month for 20 years.

The Port Adelaide resident said she generally buys two tickets but the shop worker misheard her and she ended up with three.

She explained, “I usually buy a standard two-game entry, but when I purchased this ticket, the guy didn’t hear me correctly, and he gave me three games instead. The third game is the one that won this prize for me, so it feels like it was meant to be! It wouldn’t have happened otherwise.”

The woman said she was shocked when she checked her ticket after the draw and realised she had won the top prize.

“It was early in the morning when I checked this ticket, so it was very dark still. I’d made my coffee, gone outside to sit on the veranda and listen to the birds, and then I checked my ticket. Because it was so dark, I wasn’t sure if I saw things wrong when I checked the ticket. I probably checked it 10 times before I started to believe it was true. It was spooky!” she said.
