Al Ain Zoo’s Pink Run raises breast cancer awareness by offering free mammograms

Al Ain: All around the world, October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, Al Ain Zoo hosted an event called, The Pink Run hosted at the Zoo in collaboration with the Ambulatory Healthcare Service and the Emirates International Hospital. The Zoo offered free entrance to participants and a special discount for their families and friends.

Al Ain Zoo hosted the run as part of its continuous efforts to support the international breast cancer awareness campaign and to promote a healthier lifestyle for all members of the community through its health-related initiatives. The Pink Run also highlights the importance of early cancer detection and prevention methodology in the UAE and supports those who are currently fighting the disease, as well as their families.

The Pink Run participants choose to run either 2.5 km or 5 km, after which there were a number of cultural and entertaining activities at the Zoo, as well as competitions with exciting prizes. A ceremony was held later to present medals to the run’s winners.

The run has also been supported by other health-related activities, most notably a mobile clinic providing free comprehensive examinations by the Ambulatory Healthcare Service, as well as free women’s health examinations using the latest mammogram devices and giving them vital information on breast cancer and early detection preventative measures.

The importance of conducting specialized medical examinations and home examinations on a regular basis was also emphasized during the campaign.
