Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.

Albert Einstein

Everyone knows Albert Einstein and that he was a genius. He said very correctly: “Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” Never set limits; set higher goals in life. Essentially do activities that enhance your personality and make yourself more intelligent and more effective.

Today, all are busy: school/ college students, professionals, senior citizens, or housewives. But we all are lucky to have vacations when we can take time and do many activities that make an individual smarter, effective, and better.

Some activities which we can concentrate and focus on during a break or a vacation include:

  1. Read a book, whether a novel, science fiction, or literature. Do it surely as Reading helps you exercise your cognitive skills and increase your vocabulary. Do it regularly, and you’ll be amazed at the information you gain.
  2. Learning a foreign language as learning a new tongue keeps your brain flexible and your mind sharp, helping to reduce the slowing of the thought processes that come with age.
  3. Practice meditation or do yoga asanas. This will ensure you control all your muscles, especially your breathing.
  4. Learn music instruments. Pull out your old guitar, sign up for piano lessons or rent a trumpet. Learning how to make music will stimulate your creativity. Playing an instrument requires powers of recall and concentration to maintain the tempo.
  5. Do crosswords, number puzzles or word puzzles. You can improve your cognitive skills and creative thinking, along with your word power and vocabulary.
  6. I started my journey from being a failure in Maths in school days to being a Mathematician today by adding and subtracting bus numbers, car numbers, and thus, a NUMBER CRUNCHING habit started.

Friends, I have for you the numbers 15, 8, 12 and 7. Try to get 35 as the answer, and you can use the 4 operations, i.e., Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Try the different possibilities till you hit the bull’s eye. The answer is (15-8) X (12-7) = 7 times 5=35. Isn’t this fun?

If the hour hand on a clock moves 1/60 of a degree every minute, how many degrees will the hour hand move in 1 hour? Think about it properly with ATTENTION, and the answer that comes to your mind is one degree. Love this kind of brain teasers as they will ensure your brain remains activated and you remain Confident and Happy with regards to your memory always.

Work on some life skills and, more importantly,
form GOOD HABITS.

Stress today is inevitable. Always remember William James wise words: “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.” Breaks and vacations are the time to refresh yourself, your body, mind and soul. Work on some life skills and, more importantly, form GOOD HABITS. For good habit formation, discipline is needed as well as sacrifice. It tests your mental strength.

Family plays a vital role. Spend quality time with your near and dear ones. Play indoor games like chess and carom and don’t forget to have at least one meal with them and take them out sometimes.

Don’t forget to take proper rest and sleep; it will rejuvenate you, and you will have greater zeal, enthusiasm, vigour, and energy when you return to your regular routine post the break.
