Facebook Gaming announced a new initiative this week to empower the Black communities on the platform with the inclusive ‘Black Gaming Creator Program.’

The company says it plans to pour in $10 million over the next two years to empower the streamers, who if selected, receive incentives such as the Facebook Gaming partnership, early product access, community support and mentorships. The program also comes with a guaranteed monthly pay, which distinguishes it from other creator mentorship programs.

“Game streaming brings people together in a powerful way over a shared passion for games, and we hope to encourage more people to express their creativity through gaming,” said Leo Olebe, the global director of games partnerships at Facebook.

He cited the initiative as part of Facebook’s $200 million commitment to support Black-owned businesses announced earlier in the year.

Facebook did not underscore how many creators would be admitted into the program. The company did, however, clarify that monthly pay would vary based on “the quality of their content and the scale of their audience.”
