Here’s why Five Guys give you so many fries with your order

Not only does Five Guys create some of the juiciest patties around and offer customers unlimited toppings, but every order comes with a Mount Everest-sized pile of french fries.

The restaurant has worked out that when customers are loaded up with chips, they’re left thinking they’ve got a whole lot more bang for their buck.

Alas, the extra fries have actually been factored into menu pricing.

Five Guys founder Jerry Murrell has previously spoken about why his chain dishes out extra scoops of fries, explaining, “People complain that they get too many fries. I just tell them to make hash browns with the leftovers. I teach my managers that if people aren’t complaining, then you’re not giving them enough.”

While we’re on the topic of ginormous Five Guys orders, now seems like the perfect time to give a big fat shout out to Kyle Gibson, a competitive eater from Scotland who managed to scoff at the chain’s entire menu in an hour back in 2020, while also raising cash for charity.

Kyle munched his way through eight burgers, four hot dogs, two portions of fries, two veggie sandwiches, a grilled cheese sandwich, a BLT, two milkshakes and a couple of refill drinks.

As well as huffing a whopping 13,000 calories, he raised £400 for Newcastle West End Foodbank and also donated £100 (AED435) worth of food to the charity.

Kyle said at the time: “The challenge was to eat the entire menu at Five Guys and I did it. It took me just under 61 minutes and it was not easy. It was a bit of a struggle but I managed to get through it.”

He added: “I love doing crazy stuff like this but I do realise that there are people out there who really can’t afford food, who are in bad situations and generally need help and rely on places like food banks in order to feed their families.”
