Ameer Khusrau’s poetry, to the movies of Bollywood, Urdu has been the language of romance and love. With its sophistication and gentleness, the Urdu language has elegantly managed to unite more than 1.5 billion people from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and many more countries around the globe which is a remarkable feat to say the least.

You can now witness the grace and refinement of Urdu at the Mehfil-e-Urdu 2021 brought to you by Bazm-E-Urdu Dubai on the 4th of November 2021.

Mehfil-e-Urdu will host an exciting poetic play, ‘Mushaira-e-Raftgaan’. An abridged form of history in Urdu poetry, it brings together Urdu poetry’s famous figures in a creative and poetic time warp.

Mushaira-E-Raftgaan traces, in the most entertaining manner possible, the history of Urdu poetry: From the 13th century to the contemporary times thus, from Ameer Khusrau to Parveen Shakir.

Cutting across time and space, it brings together Urdu poetry’s tallest figures: Ameer Khusrau, Quli Qutub Shah, Wali Dakni, Mir Taqi Mir, Mirza Ghalib, Mir Anis, Maulana Hali, Mouhammad Iqbal, Firaq Gorakhpuri, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, and Parveen Shakir.

A chanced meeting between the witty Ghalib and Ameer Khusrau in the ‘other world’, makes the latter interested in the progress of ‘Hindvi poetry’ that he started. Ghalib, in turn, introduces him to the poets and poetry after his departure from the earth — and a Mushaira begins:

Mushaira-E-Raftgaan gives the glimpse of Urdu Shayri of the finest quality and class: It also brings the audiences to face to face with the legends – their scholarship, their elegant recitation style, their charming mannerisms, their stylish attire, their inter-person relationships, and most importantly, their superb sense of humor and wits.

Mushaira-E-Raftgaan is a concept coined by Bazm-E-Urdu Dubai and is the latest production of Pierrot’s Troupe – the theater company credited with giving many new, original, and entertaining productions to Hindi and Urdu theatre: Ghalib In New Delhi, Maulana Azad, Lal Quila Ka Aakhri Mushaira, Big B, Ghalib, K L Saigal, Sons of Babur, Ghalib Ke Khat, etc.

Date, Venue, and Ticket:

Bazm E Urdu in collaboration with Sharjah Book Authority is also organizing a free screening of “Ghalib In New Delhi” at Sharjah International Book Fair on 5th of November, 2021 (Friday)- It is supposedly India’s longest-running comedy show. Premiered in 1997, the play has 524 shows to its credit. Pierrot’s Troupe’s Ghalib In New Delhi – hugely popular, highly acclaimed, and rip-roaring comedy has the great erstwhile Urdu poet, Mirza Ghalib, revisiting his beloved ‘Dehli’, now ironically ‘Delhi’, in 2017 to witness and relish his posthumous fame.

The entire plot revolves around Ghalib striving against an omnipotent identity crisis, beginning with the occupants of his ‘Haveli’ mistaking him as Ghalib’s ‘Jinn’. In the later stage of play, in desperate need of recognition, Ghalib decides to ‘sell’ himself. Ghalib then opts for an advertising agency to perpetuate his presence in the minds of the people. What is the fate of Ghalib? Does his rebirth spell further disaster? Is Delhi a mere travesty of his hopes and aspirations? The answer lies in watching Ghalib in New Delhi, a laugh riot posing some serious questions about the stagnating codes.

Free passes for the Ghalib in New Delhi can be collected from Sharaf Exchange branches of Al Nahda, Sharjah Industrial Area 10, and Al Qusais Industrial Area 3
