Netflix and Sotheby’s have come together to make a custom New Balance Sneaker created from a 4.5 Billion Year Old Meteorite. If you want to be different in what you buy, you are in luck because these are the ONLY PAIR IN THE WORLD!

4.5 billion year old meteorite

Inspired by the Adam McKay’s forthcoming film “Don’t Look Up”, the shoe aptly named ‘Don’t Look Up Diabasky New Balance 550’, are made with fragments of pallasite meteorite discovered in the dry bank of Russia’s river Hekandue.

The Seymchan meteorite utilised on this special New Balance 550 was created 4.5 billion years ago in the centre of a comet or asteroid, comparable to the mythical Dibiasky Comet in the film. The shoe also has metallic lace locks with latticework in a Widmanstätten design resulting from the meteorite cooling over millions of years and can only happen in space.

These one-of-a-kind pair are fashioned by Matt Burgess of MattB Customs, who trimmed the meteorite shards to suit the curves of the shoe with a high-pressure water jet.

Don’t Look Up

The sneakers were designed as a tribute to Kate Dibiasky, Jennifer Lawrence’s character, an astronomy graduate student in the film. According to a press release, Dibiasky and Professor Dr Randall Mindy (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) find a comet on a collision path with Earth.

Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectables Brahm Wachter said in a statement, “It’s not every day we have the opportunity to offer a one-of-one pair of sneakers that technically date over four billion years old. At Sotheby’s, we’ve had the extraordinary pleasure to offer some of the most amazing and special sneakers ever created, but few can rival the uniqueness of this incredible pair. We look forward to bringing this incredible item to market.”

Sotheby’s listed price is $13,200 (AED 48,000) and you can buy it on their website at 12 p.m. ET on December 17, 2021.

’tis the season of giving, and we believe these sneakers are the best gift to show someone that your love is ‘out of this world’, Don’t you?
