DUBAI: Ten start-ups from eight countries are in the race for the four-day Siemens MindSphere Future World Series hackathon challenge that began at the Expo 2020 Dubai.

The challenge, taking place at the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), is part of a Siemens initiative to crowdsource solutions to make the world “smarter, more liveable, and sustainable”.

Siemens, the Infrastructure Digitalisation Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, has been holding hackathons since the start of Expo as part of high-profile, open-innovation events hosted by Siemens MindSphere, the creator of the Expo Smart City App and the powerful IoT framework that drives it.

The hackathons have been designed around the five pillars that drive modern cities – buildings, energy, mobility, industry and water – and connect them to IoT, using the resulting data in a smart, holistic way. The current session tackles the topic of industry. The first three days focus on coding and mentoring, with the teams working on their apps and final presentations for the Pitch Day on February 9 that will decide the final winner.

The start-ups cover diverse areas such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence, IoT, privacy-centric solutions, next-gen mobile technologies, battery charging systems for mobile robots, integrated digital business management solutions, cloud ERP systems and carbon footprint measurement solutions.

The Siemens Experience Centre at the Partners Hub, Expo 2020 Dubai, will host the Pitch Day, and coverage will be live-streamed via LinkedIn and the Siemens website.
