Three allergic hits in UK’s Pfizer roll out, NHS warns citizens with ‘history’ to refuse jab

UK officials have since the launch of their nation-wide vaccinations campaign Tuesday reported two cases of anaphylaxis and one report of a possible allergic reaction post the Pfizer BioNTech jab.

The adverse effects stemming from the overreaction of the body’s immune system can be severe, sometimes life-threatening, according to the UK National Health Service — throat swelling, and breathing difficulties would be symptomatic of such.

British regulators has responded by warning all those with a history of a significant allergic reaction to a vaccine or medication to not take the shot. They’ve also clarified that food allergies did not constitute a risk.

The err rises with the U.S. Pharma Pfizer’s call to exclude people with a history of significant adverse reaction to vaccines or its vaccine’s ingredients from late-stage trials.

As of now, U.S. regulators are expected to consider emergency authorisation of the Pfizer vaccine soon after a Thursday meeting with advisors.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned that although the vaccine roll out was a “massive moment” in the flailing country’s hard-fought battle against the pandemic, it was not an invitation for the citizens to “relax their discipline.”

The UK has reported nearly 1.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus, with over 62,000 fatalities, as one of the worst-struck nations in Europe. More than 107,566 people have tested positive in the past week alone.
